Pole Fitness Ambassador Competition Winner 2016
Posted: May 08 2016
Our pole fitness ambassador competition with Millie Robson has sadly come to a close and now it’s time to announce the winner!
But firstly we want to thank everyone who entered and shared their favourite pole strength moves and stories with us. It was very heart warming ready your journey’s in pole and the common theme has been how pole dancing has helped so many of you overcome hard times in your lives and the community and sense of belonging it has given you. It makes us so proud to be part of something that can have such a positive impact on people’s lives.
And to the winners. We were unable to chose only one winner so we have chosen one overall winner for the photoshoot and 2 runners up who’ll get pole motion goodie bags. And if that wasn’t enough everyone who entered will also receive a voucher to spend at polemotion.com and Millie Robson Photography.
Winner - Gemini Gohill
Says Gemini: "Pole changed my life by giving me confidence to show my body in all its glory. I've suffered from acne since about ages 14 and now at 34 I'm still covered in scars from a disorder called keloid scarring. Prior to pole I would rarely wear anything sleeves as the scars cover the outside of my arms, my legs and the shoulders. I also have a large burn on the inside of my left arm. All of this is totally irrelevant when I'm on the pole. It's given me I never knew I had. The photo below is one of my favourites as for me I overcame a lot of fears just to get into it. I'm now so rooms of my scars I asked the photographer not to edit out my scars! Pole has given me strength I never thought I had and as I said it brought out confidence that was probably tucked deep inside my sports bra!"
1st Runner Up - Catherine Astley
Says Catherine: "I'm thankful for my struggle because without it i wouldn't have stumbled across my strength... That quote tells a lot about my pole journey. After coming out of a 2 year relationship that was controlling and took everything I had like my friends life was hard. I was in pieces. But then... came pole! I had zero confidence, had lost who I was completely and had started to believe the things my ex had been feeding me... I was pretty low."
"A friend of a friend was starting pole and asked me if I wanted to join I was unsure because of my own issues, but I decided to start. I was very nervous, but I quickly realised pole is one big family... everyone is so supportive. Pole is so inspiring. Pole has made me realise a lot about myself and it's given me everything back that I had lost. I'm stronger and happier than ever and have a new circle of 'pole friends'... I wouldn't change the things that have happened to me for the world because that's what has made me who I am today and without that there would be no pole. I love pole... the community is amazing, it makes you realise just how much you have achieved."
2nd Runner Up - Kerry-Louise Lawrence
Says Kerry-Louise: "When I was younger before I found pole I had a terrible and nearly life changing accident and injury. I was told I'd never take part in sports again. When I started pole I was advised against it and was told it was to high impact and that I wouldn't be able to do achieve much in the sport due to my previous injury so I wouldn't be able to follow my dreams however look at me now! Pole has helped me overcome so many things over the years like silly family or friend fall outs to illness of myself or family to stress, mental abuse and depression."
"My latest battle, pole inspiration and reason why pole has had a massive positive impact of my life is because of pregnancy and my recovery after giving birth. I was surprised how much I retained and everyone was so helpful and supportive. I'm so happy with my body and how it looks now even after having a baby and I'd like to show, prove and support others to see that with hard work, dedication, commitment and determination anything is possible and goals can be achieved by anyone and it helps for people to see it can be done and to have a friendly face and achievable goals and aspirations."
