Georgie Frey - Performer Category Winner at UKAPP 2011

Posted: Sep 26 2011

We were really excited to be at the UKAPP 2011 finals and were amazed at some of the performances. Now the dust has settled and the reality has sunk in for the winners, we talk to Georgie Frey who won the performer category title. Maybe she can inspire you to enter competition and have the courage to get on stage and perform infront of an audience too?

1. Congratulations on winning the performer category at the UKAPP finals. How does it feel to be a winner?
Absolutely amazing! I was so nervous on the day, it was such a relief when it all went to plan. I couldn’t be happier!

2. Will you be entering more competitions in the future?
Yes, I am already entered into Bristol Pole in Nov and am hoping to enter into more.

3. How and why did you first get interested in pole dancing?
About 6 months ago I was training up at my local gym, Esporta. A friend Dan Rosen asked me if I’d record his routine in the studio as he was practicing for a competition. It was the first time I had ever seen pole dancing and I was blown away instantly. It looked incredible and such an exciting way to get fit.

4. What was your first lesson like? How did you feel?
After seeing Dan I brought a pole for at home and decided to teach myself a few bits. I was instantly hooked. I would rush home from work and get straight on the pole. I also attended a few classes in Milton Keynes at Polenastics - these classes really helped me progress. I loved the atmosphere of training with the other polers, it gave me so much confidence and made me feel great.

5. What is it about pole dancing that you enjoy the most?
I love the confidence pole dancing gives you. I never thought in a million years I would get up in front of a room full of people and pole dance on a stage. I also love the friendly atmosphere and the support everyone gives you. I always go away from a pole session smiling.

4. What are the main fitness benefits of pole dancing? what benefits have you noticed?
Pole dancing has really helped my core and my upper body strength. The routine practice has defiantly increased my stamina too.

5. What are your 3 favourite pole moves?
Special K, Twisted Grip Handspring and Phoenix - Not that I can do any of them.... YET! However, if you’re talking about moves I can do then I would say reverse grab, cross ankle release and the rockstar spin.

6. Would you recommend pole dancing?
YES 100% :-)
